How the assistant finds your products and services, what the cards in the chat show, which catalog it answers from, and how to check the result.

When a visitor asks about something you sell — "do you have a waterproof jacket?", "how much is a full service?", "is the blue one in stock?" — the assistant searches your catalog and answers from what it finds. Every item it recommends comes with a **card**: a small tile under the answer that opens the item's page on your website. See [How answers look](https://konvuno.com/help/visitors/answers#cards) for the whole answer as a visitor sees it.

An answer with two cards: a product and a service

## How the assistant uses your catalog

- It searches by name, brand, category, description and SKU, and also by meaning: "something for a rainy commute" can find a jacket that never uses the word "rain".
- It can narrow the search the way a shop assistant would — a price range, a brand, a category, a size or colour, only what is in stock.
- It answers only from what the search returns. It does not make up prices, stock or products. Sold-out items stay in the search, so it can tell a visitor that something is sold out rather than act as if you never had it.

A change you make reaches the chat within a few minutes. Items from a connected shop follow the shop's own schedule — see [Product feed](https://konvuno.com/help/catalog/product-feed#sync) and [WooCommerce](https://konvuno.com/help/catalog/woocommerce#sync).

## What a card shows

- the **picture**, from the item's Image URL. Without one, the card is text only — no empty box;
- the **name**, and under it the **brand** — or the category if there is no brand, or the start of the description if there is neither;
- the **price**. If the item is on sale, that is the sale price. For a product whose options cost different amounts, the card says "from" and the lowest price;
- a **stock label**: In stock, Out of stock or Pre-order. A Service never gets one, and neither does an item whose availability is Unknown;
- **how many options** there are, for a product with several sizes or colours from a connected shop.

The assistant shows a card for each item it recommends, up to four per answer, once the answer is complete. An item without a **Product URL** gets no card — there would be nowhere to send the visitor.

When a visitor clicks a card, [your page opens](https://konvuno.com/help/visitors/answers#links). A page on the same website as the chat opens in the same tab and the conversation stays open; a page on another website opens in a new tab.

## Turn product recommendations on or off

Product search is controlled on the Widget screen, on the Behavior tab: **Catalog recommendations** — see [How the assistant answers](https://konvuno.com/help/widget/behavior#answers). Like every widget setting, a change reaches your website once you publish it.

Even with the setting on, the assistant only searches when the catalog it answers from has at least one item. With an empty catalog it does not search at all, and answers questions about what you offer from your [FAQs and business description](https://konvuno.com/help/knowledge#answers) instead.

## Which catalog the assistant answers from

Once a shop is connected, your business has two catalogs: the shop's, and the one you manage yourself under **Added manually**. **Widget answers from**, under the shop tiles on the Catalog screen, decides which of them the assistant uses.

![Choosing which catalog the assistant answers from](https://konvuno.com/help/shots/en/catalog/active-catalog.webp)

Choosing which catalog the assistant answers from

- **All catalogs** — both. Choose this if you add items by hand next to your shop, such as services or gift cards your shop does not sell.
- **Added manually** — only the items you manage yourself.
- **The one marked "synced"** — only your shop's products.

The change applies straight away — there is nothing to publish. Owners and members can change it.

When you connect a shop and nothing is chosen here yet, its first import sets this for you:

- if you have **no** items of your own, the assistant answers from the shop's catalog;
- if you **do** have items under Added manually, it stays on All catalogs, so nothing you added stops being used.

While the shop's catalog is selected, the Added manually heading says that the assistant does not use those items.

When you disconnect the shop, the assistant goes back to your own items.

## Check what visitors get

The quickest way to check your catalog is to ask the assistant yourself. On the Widget screen, switch the preview to Test — see [Preview and test](https://konvuno.com/help/widget/preview-and-test#test) — and try:

- a product by name, and the same product described in other words;
- a price question: "anything under 50?";
- something you sell out of, to see how the assistant handles it;
- a service, to check its card has no stock label.

If an answer is off, the fix is almost always in the item itself: a clearer name, a category, a sentence of description, or a missing Product URL.

How other businesses use it

- **A florist** adds a photo to every bouquet, so the cards in the chat look like a small shop window.
- **A car repair workshop** lists its services with fixed prices, so "how much is an oil change?" gets a card with the price and a link to book.
- **An online bookshop** keeps All catalogs, because its gift vouchers live only in the manual catalog.
- **A software company** lists its three plans as Service items, so the assistant can compare them and link to the signup page.
